Meeting Information

     The North Western Illinois Chapter holds a meeting on the fourth Saturday of each month, except June and December. We meet at St. Marks Lutheran Church at 675 North Mulford Road in Rockford, IL. Regular meetings begin with the doors open by 7 PM, a short business meeting starting at 7:30 and the main program to follow. There will usually be time for members in attendance to share any railroad news, news slides, or or participate in a mini-feature. Details on those events will be provided. For a detailed description of the featured show at the meeting, see below.

     Effective with the October, 2011 meeting, we began offering sales tables prior to Chapter meetings.
     Table reservations must be made with the chapter president one month in advance. Current plans will have 10 tables available per meeting at $5.00 per table. Availability will be first reserved-first served.

While the judging is being done, George Strombeck will show his digital photos of trains in Bangkok, Thailand he took during his visit to see his son last Christmas, including the new high speed airport express (click here to view) just opened last November. The train travels the 22 miles between downtown Bangkok and the airport in 16 minutes! Also he will show the beautiful subway opened 6 years ago, and the Skytrain which began operating in 2001. Some Ty freight engines will also be included."

The Chapter picnic will be at Mike Schafer's Zephyr Acres. He will have an open house at noon with the grills started about 5:00pm. An informal BYO slide show will start after dark. Both digi and traditional slides can be accommodated. Limit your selection to 20 images or less.

Program - "It's a 50-50 Shot" by Mark & Mike Nelson. They will look at the entire C&NW fleet of 50 EMD GP-50 locomotives - all of them.

Program - Chapter President Jerry Pyfer is working on a railroad employee interview program. More information as this develops.

Program - Roy Peterson Collection - Part II. The Belvidere area will be featured as well as the introduction of living color in Roy's work. You will see a steam powered C&NW Viking passenger train high-balling through Caledonia, in color.

Annual Christmas Dinner at the Wooden Nickel in Stillman Valley.
