NWI-NRHS

NWI CHAPTER
PRESIDENT’S REPORT
January 2022 from
Jerry Pyfer

Happy New Year

After the big shut-down of 2020, 2021 hope would be for a better year for all.

In some respects, 2021 saw a reawakening of gatherings in the NWI region. The NWI Chapter had our first in-person meeting in March. Lloyd Rinehart’s, much delayed Milwaukee Road presentation finally received the highball. The annual Photographer of the Year in April saw Lance Wales take first place.

May featured our first joint meeting with the Wisconsin Chapter via Zoom, the internet gathering site. John Dbiobko Rock Island Railroad images were presented by Erik Rasmussen and Ray Peacock along with John.

August was at the Oregon, Illinois depot. We then met at St. Mark’s Church in September, albeit behind face masks, where Jason Leverton presented railroads in less than hospitable weather. I presented news articles from the NWL with slides.

October saw Robert Schmidt present Passenger Trains of the Northeast. Bob also became the sixth NWI member to join the 50 year NRHS-NWI membership club.

During November’s NWI Annual Meeting, Andrew Nelson and Mike McBride each made Chicago & North Western presentations to round out the shortened meeting year.

We are in the midst of 2022 dues and subscription
renewals. A huge thank you, to those who have already renewed. As we process your renewal payments, your address label will reflect your 2022 Membership/subscription is complete. Most deposits are made early in the month.

I would like to hope we can continue Chapter meetings for 2022, but as we all know all too well, the new virus variant has the ability to forcibly change our plans. If a scheduled meeting is affected by either Covid or bad weather, you can check the Chapter website at: NWINRHS.org or the Chapter Facebook page for last minute changes.

NWI Dues for 2022

The NWI portion of the dues will remain at $20.00. As a full NRHS/NWI member, you get the NWL, attend all activities and take part in any business.

The National Railway Historical Society dues for 2022 remain at $50.00. All NRHS dues business must be handled through the National. When you are a current NRHS member through another chapter and subscriber to our NWL, you become a full member with us as well. Please let us know if your address label does not reflect this information.

A subscription to the North Western Limited newsletter for 2022 will remain at $20.00. As a subscriber, you receive the NWL and attend activities, but cannot take part in any business actions.

Rock River Valley of the National Model Railroad Association Train Show 2022

We received word the Rock River Valley Division of the National Model Railroad Association Train Show is scheduled for the weekend of March 26-27, 2022.
The show will take place in the Harlem High School gymnasium 9229 North Alpine Road, Machesney Park, Illinois.

Our chapter will have a display as in years past. We find that two or three people can handle the show each day. Please consider your assistance; I will need to know to line-up a pass-badge for you.
